France certainly made a good effort last night and have some useful players. There is more talent in France than we normally get exposure to. We never get to see the French League and since this year Sky are unwilling (or unable?) to go to Perpignan we only ever see Les Catalans over here and they don't travel at all well.

There still seems to be quite a gulf though. Even when France went in front the result was never seriously in doubt and GB were considerably understrength into the bargain.

Maybe there is a danger of being impatient. It could take ten years before a generation of players has come through a full time structure to reach a competitive level internationally. I do fear for one thing though. Once Les Catalans immunity from relegation ends their desire to bring on untried Frenchman may be tested. They have a good few Aussies/Kiwis already and that does little for the National teams prospects.

We should bite the franchise bullet and say that (whatever we do for the English sides) the French sides (yes I do think there should be two of them) are hear to stay.

Neutral Grounds
So. Warrington is neutral territory between Catalunya and Wigan is it? I suppose there is no reason to be surprised that the Challenge Cup Semi between Wigan and Les Catalans would be played somewhere near the M62. They could at least have made Wigan travel as far as Yorkshire though couldn't they? Or maybe they could have taken it to the Stoop. Allez le France!

Whingeing
I thought in rugby league we usually have to put up with whingeing from the Aussies. Seems like Cambridge Eagles have been taking lessons.

Their coach was very exercised about Roosters and high tackles. They should just be glad that scarf has retired.

Well Done Halifax
As I write they have just turned Widnes over 12-6.

Cummins opens a can of worms

Stuart Cummins (the refs boss) has posted a video on the RFL website proving that a decision not to penalise a Hull player for offside at the end of their draw with Huddersfield was the correct decision.

He has also asked fans to e-mail in with queries about decisions.

He must be pretty confident. Or plain mad....

A lot was written on our forum about the extravagant language used by Bedford in their report of the match we lost there.

"Blitzed" "what a thrashing" and so on...

Maybe they are trying to build up some sort of local rivalry? Has no-one told them that our county rivals Cambridge Eagles occupy that position?

Oddly when Greenwich put a similar result over us their language was more restrained.

And Colchester (albeit in defeat) were positively humble.

Perhaps the Tiggers can soon be made to eat their words...
